Introduction To The ACT Course

1. ACT

The ACT, or “American College Test”, is organized by ACT INC. It is one of the requirements for admission to U.S. undergraduate programs and an important basis for awarding scholarships.

The ACT consists of five sections: English, math, reading, science, and writing (optional). Unlike previous summative tests that focus on students’ mastery of what they have learned, ACT is a configurable test to examine students’ ability to learn, aptitudes, and adaptability. ACT is a 36-point test of four parts: “English” to test a candidate’s ability to understand and analyze written English; “math” to test a candidate’s quantitative reasoning skills; “reading” to test a candidate’s ability to understand, analyze, evaluatively reason, and solve problems, with content involving natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, and even literature and arts; “science” to test a candidate’s ability to use charts, tables, and research summaries to work with scientific concepts. There is also an optional 30-minute English writing portion to examine candidates’ English writing skills. ACT focuses directly on candidates’ abilities and skills necessary for college learning, such as the ability to analyze and solve problems and to critically evaluate written materials. ACT emphasizes the mastery of secondary school knowledge. A complete set of ACT papers has 215 questions in total, including 75 questions on English, 60 questions on math, 40 questions on reading, and 40 questions on science. The test time has a 175min duration.

4. Curriculum

A course without planning cannot be a course of quality. All lessons of New Future are designed with greacct emphasis on the syllabus from the very beginning. Only by planning ahead is it possible to achieve the desired effect in class.

In the newly upgraded test-prep program, at the request of our students, we set the strength of the reading class higher, break down the knowledge and guide students through more exercises. To be fast, be proficient. “Fast” is the secret of high ACT scores.

5. Highlights

        I. High-quality course materials to help build the knowledge system

The New Future ACT preparation program provides students with a wealth of handouts and matching exercise books. The exercise books are designed fully in line with the thread of the course, including high-quality exercises to make sure that the knowledge learned in class is consolidated after class.

        II. End-of-course mock exams

There are 2 mock exams at the end of the course, which help to verify the effectiveness of the course and quantitatively assess students’ progress.

At the same time, to better solve students’ problems at the time of admission and in the mock exams, we have dedicated teaching assistants to see to the problems of each student after class.

        III. Teaching objectives

The lessons contain all the knowledge points involved in the test without dead ends. The knowledge points are arranged into sorts for students to capture them step by step. The overall course is logically organized and progressive in difficulty, from groundwork to the ceiling. The examples used in class and the exercises after class are classical questions carefully selected by teachers themselves, which are highly representative, not too difficult or too easy and. Teachers will guide students through these exercises in pursuit of higher efficiency.

        IV. Scientific question answering

Learn ACT knowledge in a comprehensive and systematic way. Introduce the way of learning and question answering scientifically. Our philosophy is to tamp the foundation, progress gradually, overcome difficulties, and achieve excellence. We oppose performance enhancement by doing tons of exercises alone. We oppose mere teaching of question-answering skills or simply guessing about questions in exams.
