SAT Flagship
Course Introduction
The Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) evaluates the academic skills of high school students in the United States. SAT scores are important not only to determine the academic ability of a student when applying to college or university but also for scholarships. The 1,600 points on the SAT comprise three sections: reading (400 points), writing and language (400 points), and mathematics (800 points).
I. Course Orientation
The SAT Flagship Course will help students achieve a high (1,550+) or even a perfect score (1,600) on their SAT.
II. Instructors
The SAT Flagship Course instructor holds a Doctor of Philosophy in education from Columbia University and possesses extensive SAT preparatory experience. Furthermore, all SAT Flagship Course teaching assistants have achieved scores of 1,550 or higher on their SAT, are familiar with the test, and possess exceptional SAT instructional experience.
III. Teaching Plan
The SAT Flagship Course will review each of the three sections in a logical and progressively difficult fashion, focusing on maximizing each student’s performance. Moreover, the instructors will select instructional examples that closely mimic “real world” testing conditions and material, focusing on test-taking skills and testing response efficiency.
IV. Course Schedule
The SAT Flagship Course begins on 01/07/2023 and ends on 08/23/2023. The 65 classes span spring and summer instructional periods and total 150 hours of instructional time.

Contents:
-
Fiction subsection: 3 two-hour lessons (6 hours) discussing key works of fiction and frequently tested vocabulary words to help students understand complex characters and plotlines. Homework will consist of mock tests to prepare students for the SAT.
-
History subsection: 6 two-hour lessons (12 hours) discussing key historical literature. Students will analyze materials that are likely to appear on the test, focusing on authors’ and historical figures’ perspectives. Additionally, students will learn how to extract detailed opinions and vocabulary from “real world” testing material.
-
Science subsection: 6 two-hour lessons (12 hours) analyzing major natural science and social science passages. Students will learn how to read and interpret scientific papers and identify research questions. Testing simulations will hone each student’s ability to understand the passages and accurately answer the questions in a timely fashion.
The 15 classes comprising fiction + history + science subsections and background knowledge total 30 hours of direct instruction.
-
In addition to the fiction, history, and science sections, the summer course includes 10 four-hour “mock” SAT simulations. Each simulation lasts 3 hours (like the official SAT), followed by 1 hour of evaluation, totaling 4 hours (40 hours across 10 mock SAT simulations).
V. Course Features
-
We aim to help students achieve success on the SAT by establishing a solid foundation, fostering gradual progress, and overcoming obstacles to the path of success. The SAT Flagship Course comprises a comprehensive and systematic examination of all SAT subsections using scientific learning and problem-solving methods.
-
We disapprove of rote learning and excessive testing.
-
We disapprove of the unscientific practices of only covering problem-solving techniques, guessing, or betting on questions that may be tested.

-
Students with excellent academic performance who are committed to achieving 1,550+ or more on the SAT.
-
Students with average and higher academic performance who are committed to achieving 1,550+ or more on the SAT.
